Harry William “Bill” Califf, 89, of Hamilton, Illinois, passed away at 5:31 AM
Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Bill was born January 20, 1935, in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Harry A. and
Maxine (Jacobs) Califf. He attended Mendon High School graduating in
1952. He then served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. On January 1,
1957, he was united in marriage to Rachel M. Schilson at Golden’s Point
Christian Church north of Hamilton. She preceded him in death in 2018.
Bill worked at Hubingers and Roquette for many years. In retirement he
worked with Roger Turner on construction projects. He was a member the
First Christian Church in Hamilton. Bill enjoyed volunteering his time at
Meals on Wheels and the nursing home and was a regular Red Cross
blood donor.
Bill is survived by a son, Terry (Susanne) Califf of Lincoln, NE; a daughter,
Jennifer Rooney of Chatham, IL; grandchildren, Christopher Califf, William
Welter, Andrea West, Yelena Califf, Joey Califf, Jacob Califf, Jessica Califf,
Jarin Mueller, Cera Rooney, Mera Rooney, Trentin Rooney and Nia
Rooney; fourteen great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Chris Mott.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rachel; two sons, Mark and
Kevin Califf; and siblings, James, Patricia and Jerry Califf.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at the
First Christian Church in Hamilton. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 8:00
PM Monday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with family
meeting friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the
Great River Honor Flight or Meals of Wheels. Printy Funeral Home of
Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
